Gold Jewelry Prices Down 0.12% Trigger Deflation During October

Jakarta - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded deflation of 0.12% in October. During October of deflation that contributed by the decline in some commodity prices, especially gold jewelry are recorded down to 0.11%.

Other items that also fall in price and a contributor to deflation is deflation 0.07% fresh fish, chicken 0.04% deflation, deflation of air freight rates 0.04%

"Nationally, 0.12% deflation," said Deputy Director General of Statistics, Distribution and Services BPS, Djamal told a news conference at his office, Jalan DR Sutomo, Jakarta, Tuesday (11/01/2011).

The rate of inflation, the inflation rate in the calendar from January to October 2011 at 2.85%, lower than the calendar year inflation in September was at 2.97%. Year on year inflation rate stood at 4.42%.

BPS also recorded deflation in core inflation component of -0.12% in October 2011. Core inflation year on year at 4.43%.
Then, the BPS also recorded air transport fares rose 0.04%, while chicken prices fell 0.03%, urban transport fares rose 0.02%, potato prices fell 0.2%, prices fell 0.02% onions, 0.02% and cooking oil.
